Ponggal Celebration 2019
15.1.19 - Ponggal or the Harvest Festival is celebrated by the Indian community over 4 days. 'Pongal' means 'to boil' and 'Ponga' means 'overflowing', which indicates abundance or prosperity. You'll see families boiling milk in a claypot, usually in the moring, till it overflows. When it overflows, it is customary to blow a conch shell and shout 'Pongalo Pongal' to mark the auspicious festival.
In Malaysia, it's another occasion to celebrate the diverse cultural festivals across the country. In the local community, we can see the various races come together to observe this practise and leaders will officiate the ceremonies.
